Get Involved

The building needs people more than anything else

You don't need legal, financial or building expertise — those are brought in. What's needed is local knowledge, common sense, and a willingness to be in the room.

Ways to help

Join the Setup Committee — help get the trust off the ground. New members are welcome until the committee is finalised.
Become a trustee — sit on the board of the community company. Personal liability is capped at €1 and trustees are covered by indemnity insurance paid for by the company. Typically one evening meeting a month.
Offer a skill for a one-off task — fundraising, events, admin, gardening, photography, local history, trades.
Become a Friend of the Reading Rooms — lend a hand on working days and stay close to the project.

Why stepping forward is the safer choice

Forming the community company is what protects volunteers. Right now, anyone informally holding keys carries personal exposure. Once the company is in place that risk transfers to the company — where personal liability is capped at €1 — and to an indemnity insurance policy. Stepping forward is the safer position, not the riskier one.
